Varanasi's Banaras Hindu University is an internationally renowned temple of learning. Great nationalist leader Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya built this creative and inventive institution in 1916 with help from Dr Annie Besant, who saw it as the University of India. The B.H.U. Act 1915 established Banaras Hindu University. It was an important part of the freedom fight and has become India's premier educational hub. It has produced many famous independence warriors and architects of modern India, as well as notable intellectuals, artists, scientists, and technicians who have contributed much to the nation's growth.
The 1300 acre main campus of this prestigious Central University has well-maintained roads, abundant vegetation, a temple, an air strip, and architecturally stunning buildings. During WWII, the campus's Air Field was built to train pilots. A 2700 acre campus of the university is being built in Barkachha in Mirzapur district.
The university has three institutes, fourteen faculties, 140 departments, four inter-disciplinary centres, a constituent college for women, and three constituent schools. It contains 6 Advanced Study Centers, 10 Special Assistance Departments, and several Research Centers. The University has four degree colleges in the city. The university's renowned museum, Bharat Kala Bhavan, has unique treasures. The University's 927-bed hospital is fully modernised. Also, the institution offers several services and units such as the Printing Press, Publication Cell, Fruit Preservation Center, Subsidized Canteens and Employment and Information Bureau.

Reservations are available at the Banaras Hindu University for the following groups:
SC/ST students are guaranteed 15 percent of available seats in each programme, with an additional 7.5 percent of seats set aside for them.
Candidates from the OBC category (excluding those in the creamy layer) would be given a 27 percent reservation in various courses.
Seats for candidates with physical disabilities will make up 3% of the total. Hearing Impaired(1%) + Orthopaedically Handicapped(1%) + Visually Impaired (1%) (1 percent )
Approximately 15% of the slots in M.P.Ed. are reserved for female applicants. If any of these positions become available, they will be filled on the basis of merit by men.
The children (including married daughters) of current BHU permanent workers (including those on probation) are eligible for 15% extra seats in all courses (including special courses).
For a minimum of seven months, 50 low-income students will be fed with lunch and dinner under the "Free Meal Facility." For female hostellers, they will be paid for the real Mess fees they incurred during their stay.
Under the "Annadaan Yojana," a total of 20 blind students will be eligible for free lunch and dinner, as well as a monetary award of INR 5000 each year.
The first and second place finishers will each get a cash prize of INR 4000 and INR 300, respectively, for their efforts.
An sum of INR 2000 per year will be provided as Financial Assistance to students from low-income families who are enrolled in the University. It is possible that just 100 pupils will be able to attend.
A one-time payment of INR 4000 per student will be offered to the Physically Handicapped students for the duration of their study, subject to a maximum of 25 students being awarded the scholarship.
Students, other than research researchers, who participate in any national level seminar/symposium/conference will be compensated for their sleeper class rail fare.
Organizing Seminars/Workshops at the Faculty/Institute level that are helpful to students will be eligible for Financial Assistance up to a maximum of INR 5000 per seminar/workshop, with a maximum of 10 seminars/symposia/workshops per year being granted.
The recruiting activities held on the BHU campus are overseen by a Placement Coordination Cell that is specifically devoted to this purpose. A major goal of the placement cell is to assist students from a variety of professional schools in obtaining employment with top-tier corporations and organisations. Every year, reputable companies hire about 90 percent of the students who graduate from prestigious institutions.
